AGS: Coach trip to RHS Garden Hyde Hall Saturday 15th August 2026


Event: Coach trip to RHS Garden Hyde Hall

Time: Various pick up times, 3 locations available,  to be chosen when booking
Where: Chelmsford, Essex, CM3 8ET
Cost: £20 per person. Admission is free through AGS affiliated Society Passes.
 
 
Aylesbury Gardening Society are pleased to announce the annual RHS trip, this year going to Garden Hyde Hall
 
Hyde hall has many themed garden areas to explore, from global produce to dry climates, winter wonders, courtyard gardens and arboreta, Hyde Hall delivers something for everyone. It also hosts a garden centre where you can buy plants, gifts and homeware, plus great ideas for the home and garden.  Fancy something to eat or drink ? Hyde Hall has the Gardeners Rest Restaurant and The Clover Cafe.
 
This trip is open to all members plus 1 guest, numbers are limited, on a first come first served basis.
Booking forms will be available at the Thurston Store, every Sunday morning, payment is required at the time of booking.

Gardening jobs to do in July, 
 It's been a hot summer in the UK so far, read the RHS latest advice on watering during heatwaves, drought-resistant gardening and vegetable care to help your plants thrive.
  • Deadhead bedding plants and repeat-flowering perennials to ensure continuous flowering
  • Water tubs and new plants if dry, but be water wise, utilising existing water stores if available
  • Pick courgettes before they become marrows and tomatoes as they ripen

Wild About Gardens: National Moth Week

Did you know there are around 2,500 species of moth in the UK? Just as important to our ecosystem as butterflies, they often go unnoticed as many only fly at night.

New NHS Wellbeing Garden to open at Royal Oldham Hospital

A cherished fountain garden at Royal Oldham Hospital will be transformed into a space that supports NHS staff and patient wellbeing, while also becoming a social hub for the local community. The garden design includes additional trees to create shaded seating areas, wildlife-friendly planting, a new accessible path and a rose arbour. The build is due to start this summer, opening for use later in the year. read more on the RHS website

Dahlias 
Carolyn Ormesher of Missenden Seeds is passionate about flowers which are good for cutting and pollinators, including dahlias. She will talk about the history of dahlias, why you should grow them, different types, how to grow and propagate them, dahlia breeding and top tips for beautiful dahlias.

Come and see some beautiful displays including chrysanthemums, dahlias and vegetables and enjoy delicious home-made cakes.

Planting Pots for Winter Interest and Spring Joy 
Harriet Rycroft was the Head Gardener at Whichford Pottery for many years and created some spectacular displays. Her talk starts with slides followed by a practical planting demonstration to discuss the nitty-gritty of creating and maintaining such displays.

Hellebores
Andrew Mikolajski, writer, speaker and RHS judge calls these the stars of the winter garden with a vast number of beautiful varieties to enjoy. He will discuss their history and origins, which are the best for growing in gardens and why they are still so expensive. 

Tuesday 1st December - 8.00pm
Talk on the Chilterns Wildlife Plus Christmas Social
Jon Mason is a local speaker on natural history and the environment. He will look at the diversity of habitats in the Chilterns, some of the best places to go and discuss his own experiences. Our Christmas social includes festive refreshments, quiz and a raffle.
 
All meetings are held at Stewart Hall, Little Kimble at 8.00 pm every 1st Tuesday of the month (except January and August). Although we pride ourselves on our expert speakers, all talks are very informal and are followed by refreshments and a raffle. Visitors are always welcome - do come and try one of our meetings.
